Sunday, February 15: Price of Discipleship

Worship our Lord with us at Community Church on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Pastor Brett Spalding’s message is “Price of Discipleship.” Our scriptures include 2 Corinthians 5:14-18, Galatians 2:19-21, and
Mark 8:27-38.

Synopsis: Jesus began to challenge the disciples and followers with His true identity, the Messiah He really and truly is, as opposed to the earthly liberator many expected Him to be.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes in his book, “The Cost of Discipleship,” that God’s grace is freely given to us through Christ, but it was not cheap. He states, “Cheap grace is the deadly enemy of our church… Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without repentance, baptism without church discipline, communion without confession… Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ.”

This Sunday we will examine the truth that while grace is free, it is anything but cheap and what that means for us as Christians.

Synopsis: Paul writes to the Colossians out of concern that they might be tempted to worship other gods or idols. To do this, Paul seeks to make it clear that believers understand who Christ is and His work. Paul does this by clearly describing who Jesus is, His work, His relationship with the Father, and the desire for us to live in Him.
