Synopsis: Our scripture today takes place during the time of the Judges; beginning with the death of Joshua and ending with Saul being anointed as the first King of Israel. Israel had possessed much of the Promised Land, but not all of it. This was a roller coaster time for Israel. Israel would follow God and then sin and turn to idols. When the people sinned, God allowed the neighboring people to oppress them. When the people cried out to God, God would raise up a judge, who delivered them from their oppressors.
This Sunday, we are introduced to Gideon, whom God selected to deliver Israel from the Midianites. We see Gideon’s initial doubt, then we see Him trust God and grow as a leader, despite His doubts.
