Join us to worship the Lord this Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Brett Spalding’s topic is “By Faith, We Work.” Our scriptures include Hebrews 11:8-13, Genesis 22:1-12, and James 2:14-26
Synopsis: Martin Luther was not a fan of the Book of James; he even went as far as to call it an “Epistle of Straw.” Luther felt James’ Epistle (Letter) was at odds with Paul’s writings of “justification by faith”. I have great respect for Luther’s writings and teachings on scripture, but I think he missed the point in this writing on James. One must agree that one is not saved by their works, “justification by works.” After all, belief (faith) in Jesus Christ is required for salvation. The point James was trying to make is that faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior would lead to works. We’ll explore many of these thoughts and questions this coming Sunday.
